Yep. I’m leaving the “default” title here. It’s my first “blog” after all. I write a lot, but up until this day my writing has been strictly for my own eyes. My intention is to make this my forum to write about design, business, the internet and how it all fits into my life. They are highly generalized topics for a reason. In fact, I could lump them all into “creativity” because that is the root of it all. I will not allow comments most of the time. However, I might ask for comments some of the time. Primarily, this space is for me to talk about my creative process and the business I have created through that process—Tangerine Design.
I love process—and cycles. I am an outdoor cat, and a little feral. One of my greatest joys is waking up before dawn and getting on-trail. Right now as I write, it is Winter and though the temperatures are dipping into the low 20s just before dawn, I delight in the frigid darkness. This morning, I met a friend for some trail time and our dogs frolicked with their glow-ring collars—darting through the darkness.
One of the most remarkable things about getting out before the sun rises is the shift from monochrome to color. Even our desert hillsides, covered in sagebrush, desert peach and wild grasses, appear shockingly vibrant as the Sun casts beams of golden hues. Hello World, indeed. The daily cycle is easy to relate to. We experience this tens of thousands of times in an average lifespan!
I find the seasons (another cycle) endlessly inspiring. Ice, in particular, has been a longtime muse for me. The process (cycle) of water becoming ice is astonishingly intricate and the randomness of wild ice sculpture is delightful. My trail friends know to keep me out of cold creek canyons in the Winter if they want to get anywhere. ‘Tis the season of ice. Solstice has passed and the hours of daylight outnumber the darkness. Still, even as the daylight hours grow, the tilt of the earth on its axis as we revolve around the Sun guarantees more ice in the coming months.
